Register for the Exam

Visit the official JOT registration site and fill out your personal information, including your full name, date of birth, and contact details. Ensure that all details are accurate to avoid any issues later.

Upload a Photo for Facial Authentication

for security reasons, JOT requires a clear photo of your face to be uploaded during registration. This photo will be used for facial recognition during the test to prevent cheating or impersonation.

Select the Payment Method

Choose your preferred payment method from the available options (credit card, debit card, or online payment platforms). Once the payment is processed, you will receive a confirmation email.

Receive Exam Details

After completing the registration and payment, an email will be sent to you containing your exam ID and passcode. You will also receive the location details of your selected test center.

Login to the Exam System at the Test Center

On the day of the exam, visit the designated test center, where you will log in using your provided ID and passcode. Your face will be authenticated via the facial recognition system before you begin the test.

Take the Test

Complete the JOT, which includes sections on Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading, Listening, and Japanese Culture. The test duration varies depending on the level chosen, ranging from 90 to 120 minutes.

Check Results on My Page

Once the test is finished, you can log in to your personal My Page to check your results immediately. The My Page can be accessed via your smartphone or computer.

Request Certificate (Optional)

If you pass the exam and need an official certificate, you can request one via the online portal. Simply choose the option to have a certificate issued, and it will be sent to you.

Step 1: Registration

Select Test Level & Location: Select the suitable JOT level that is JT1 to JT5 depending device proficiency and sit for a center near you.
Register Online: Please go to the official JOT website and provide your personal information to finish the registration process. Check you have the right details as per your identification card.
Upload Photo for Facial Recognition: Take a high resolution photograph that will be used by the facial recognition App during the examination.
Payment: After that, make the final payment for the exam through the options mentioned for online payment of cards.

Step 2: Test Day

Arrive at the Test Center: Make sure you get to the test center at least 15 minutes before your test time to enable administration formalities to be completed.
Face Authentication: When you begin the exam, your identity will be checked by face recognition by the system. Make sure that your face conforms to that captured during registration based on the photo uploaded.
Login to Exam System: The examination ID and the passcode will be sent to your email hence use the details to sign in at the JOT system of the test center.

Step 3: During the Exam

Follow On-Screen Instructions: Make sure you go through all written messages on the screen before beginning each segment. It includes Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading, Listening and a section on Japanese Culture.
Timed Sections: All of the sections are timed, and the overall time of the test depends on which level has been chosen.
- JT1 (Advanced): 120 minutes
- JT2 (Upper Intermediate): 110 minutes
- JT3 (Intermediate): 95 minutes
- JT4 (Basic-Intermediate): 90 minutes
- JT5 (Basic): 95 minutes
Complete the Test: Be sure to respond to all the questions in each part of the assessment. If all sections are filled, pass your test.

Step 4: After the Exam

Immediate Results: As soon as you are done with your test, you are able to get your results right away once you log on to my personal My Page.
Request a Certificate: In case you pass the exam, you can demand a certificate of completion which is issued if required.
